14 Lower Chantry Lane, Canterbury

Description

A most attractive detached grade II listed five/six bedroom period home steeped in history and found in the highly desirable town of Whitstable. This beautiful home provides spacious and well proportional living accommodation and retains many attractive and original features including fireplaces, beamed ceilings, paneling to some rooms, latch doors, strip floors and window shutters. We understand from the vendors that the rear of the house dates back to the 1400s, with the front portion dating back to the 1700s. The property was once owned by the Sheriff of Kent, Sir Nicholas Crispe who was born in 1530. The property is screened from the road and is within walking distance to the vibrant high street of Whitstable which is approximately 10 minutes away with its variety of shopping, dining, recreational facilities and the popular beach approximately 15 minutes away. The accommodation briefly comprises to the ground floor an entrance hall, lounge with feature fireplace and dark wood wall paneling, sitting room again with a feature fireplace with half paneled walls, dining room with built in  cupboards and gas AGA oven, kitchen and cloak room. To the first floor there are three bedrooms and  a family bathroom off which is a further bedroom/study. The main bedroom has an en-suite shower room. To the second floor there are two further bedrooms.

The property stands on a good sized plot which is mainly lawned with a driveway providing off street parking for four cars leading to a single garage. Grimshill offers huge potential and offers a chance to own a piece of Whitstable history.

Please note - The front of the property and the corner of the kitchen was underpinned in 1998/99.

There are also tree preservation orders on some of the tress.

Location

The popular seaside town of Whitstable is situated on the stunning North Kent coast, 7 miles north of the historical city of Canterbury and less than 60 miles from central London. With its quaint alley ways, colourful high street and peaceful shingle beaches this town has a lot to offer both residents and holiday makers. This town is famous for its working harbour and oysters, which have been collected in the area since Roman times and celebrated at the annual July Whitstable Oyster Festival. For entertainment there are excellent water sport facilities, plenty of art galleries, and a wealth of independently run restaurants, boutiques and cafes to enjoy along the vibrant high street. The Crab and Winkle Way, one of the earliest passenger railways and the first ever steam-powered railway in the world, follows the disused railway line between Canterbury and Whitstable, and is now a popular walking and cycle route through woods and countryside. Road links via the A299 Thanet Way give easy access to the M2 for travel to London and beyond. Whitstable also has a main line train station providing fast and frequent links into London Victoria (1hr 30 mins) and London St Pancras (1hr 11mins).
