Description

INTRODUCTION

Set within the breathtaking Teign Valley, this remarkable dual entrance estate offers an unparalleled opportunity for multigenerational living or investment potential. The property consists of two distinctive residences: a beautifully extended semi-detached grade II listed cottage brimming with character and charm, and a spacious, detached bungalow offering modern comforts and privacy. The thoughtful layout ensures both homes are perfectly positioned to offer independent living, while still being part of the same expansive estate. With over five acres of land, charming stables, a detached barn, a sizeable store shed, a tractor shed and paddocks, with the Teign River running along the lower boundary. This is a rare opportunity to create a unique family compound, or to explore the potential for income-generating ventures, all within the tranquil surroundings of the Teign Valley.

SELLERS INSIGHT

“Knowle Cottages has been our home for over 40 years now, and it's really woven into the fabric of our family. The house itself dates back to around the 1700s, so it's not just a place to live—it's a living piece of history. We raised our children here, and now, it's such a joy to see our grandchildren playing in the same spaces where they once did. We built the bungalow for a relative who lived in it happily for almost 20 years, and it is now a thriving holiday let.

Back in the early '70s, we decided to extend the cottage to make room for a more modern lifestyle. But, we were really mindful about preserving the character of the place. One of my favorite features is the original bread oven built into the fireplace. When we exposed it during renovations, we found a plaque dated 1914 with the words ‘how did it end’ obviously referring to how WW1 would end - such a fascinating discovery!

We've had countless mornings spent in the front garden, sipping coffee and watching the world go by. And, let’s not forget the many celebrations and parties we've hosted here over the years, including three wedding receptions, Trusham annual fundays and the Teign Valley pedal bashers!

The land around us is equally special. We’ve had horses, geese, chickens, and at times rented some of the land to local farmers, who have had cows and sheep grazing here. We’re lucky to have river access too, which offers a peaceful retreat to unwind (with a spot of fishing) and escape from the busy world.

It’s been an incredible life here, and we’ve been fortunate to share it with so many. But now, it’s time for another family to start their own story in this beautiful space. We’ll always carry these memories with us, but we’re excited to see what the next chapter holds for Knowle Cottages”
