Round up of Propertymark One 2024
Last Friday, 14th June, the ExCel London was buzzing with property professionals for Propertymark One. The day was packed with insightful talks, inspiring sessions, and plenty of networking opportunities.
The event began with a warm welcome from Propertymark CEO Nathan Emerson.
Nathan set the tone for the day by announcing a series of exciting new initiatives from Propertymark designed to benefit its members. These initiatives included new qualification with pathways for members to specialise in, company memberships, increased promotion of members on Propertymark's social media channels, and a suite of templates to help agents save time and money.
Additionally, Nathan announced partnerships with Reach which will provide members access to cutting-edge technology, a board supply company with preferential rates and also a new robust referral channel for cross-country collaboration between members.
Timothy Bannister, Rightmove’s Director of Property Science Innovation, followed with a compelling talk on reductions.
Tim shared valuable insights on both sales and lettings. He provided agents with data-driven advice on when to reduce prices, by how much, and the impact of waiting to reduce on market time. His presentation was filled with actionable insights that attendees could immediately apply to their practices, helping them navigate the complexities of today's market.
Daisy McAndrews, former Economics Editor and Chief Political Correspondent of ITV News, took the stage next. Daisy offered a comprehensive analysis of the upcoming general election and its potential impact on the UK housing and property industry.
She discussed various scenarios and their implications, providing a detailed overview of the political landscape.
Before lunch, attendees were treated to an engaging sit down with Sarah Beeny and Katie Griffin, Past President of NAEA Propertymark. Sarah captivated the audience with her remarkable journey, starting from buying her first company at the age of 24 to restoring a 32-room house. She opened up about her cancer diagnosis two years ago, candidly sharing, "We carry these fears that are out of proportion to the risk," and emphasising the importance of finding joy in life despite its challenges.
The day then transitioned into a series of breakout sessions, covering a wide range of topics from AI to Material Information to the importance of personal branding for estate agents.
These sessions were designed to cater to the diverse interests and needs of the attendees, providing them with practical knowledge and skills to enhance their professional development.
The breakout sessions were split by a networking lunch, allowing attendees to explore the exhibitors' booths.
Our booth was particularly busy! People were really interested in hearing about our newest innovations and offerings, and many of them took the chance to have in-depth discussions with our team.
We had interactive demos that showed off our latest technology and tools for property professionals. Visitors got to try things out for themselves, seeing how our solutions could improve their day-to-day operations.
The lunch break was a fantastic opportunity for attendees to network, exchange ideas, and discover the latest innovations in the property industry.
The afternoon session opened with an entertaining and insightful talk from Phil Spencer, Founder of Move IQ and co-presenter of Channel 4’s Location, Location, Location. Phil shared behind-the-scenes moments from the show, offering a glimpse into what viewers wouldn’t usually see. He also discussed the current market trends and provided advice on how estate agents can embrace change and gain a competitive edge.
One of the highlights of the day was a talk from Claire Williams OBE, former Team Principal of the Williams Formula One racing team. Williams shared her journey and experiences managing a 1000-strong team in one of the most competitive environments. She spoke passionately about promoting diversity, equality, and inclusion, and how these values contributed to the team’s success. Her session was truly inspiring, leaving the whole room motivated to implement similar principles in their own workplaces.
The event concluded with closing remarks from Bill Butler, Non-Executive Chair of Propertymark. Bill reflected on the day’s learnings and expressed optimism for the future of the property industry.
